HISTORY
The Society began with three members in Indianapolis during May of 1938
under the leadership of Ida S. Broo, who served as its first president
and guiding influence in succeeding years. ASWA has since grown over 90
chapters and over 6,000 members across the United States.
The Atlanta Chapter was chartered in
1944 as the twelfth chapter of ASWA. Susie Sudderth was our
first president, and she went on to become the 1946-47 ASWA
National President. Our chapter has led the way in chartering
various new chapters throughout the Southeast area.
